MOTOTRBO
XPR4550 WIDE BAND ANALOG FM vs DV

Utilizing TDMA technology with two alternating time slots within a single 12.5 kHz. In other words, the repeater can handle two separate QSO's simultaneously within the bandwidth of 12.5 kHz. In effect, it's like having two repeaters in one. Talk about spectral efficiency! A repeater must be used in order to take advantage of the two time slots (two virtual channels). The radios also come standard with the capability of text messaging via the keypad or enhanced palm mic. As an added plus, you can verify if the target radio of which you would like to communicate with is on and in range before attempting to call the operator and or sending it a text message.

NEWS FLASH - MAY 07, 2008
FCC Denies Petition to Utilize 2m Sub-Band for Digital Repeater Operation
"Repeater stations are authorized to transmit on any frequency in the 2 m band except the 144.0-144.5 MHz and 145.5-146.0 MHz frequency segments."
"digital voice operation is incompatible with existing analog operations [because d]igital voice users are unable to determine if the desired frequency is in use by analog users and can inadvertently cause harmful interference to those users."

D-STAR REPEATER OWNERS HAVE ALREADY BEGUN POWERING DOWN THEIR VHF REPEATERS

NO FUTURE ADVANCEMENTS FORESEEN
PER AORs MARKETING STAFF, THIS IS NOT A WEAK SIGNAL MODE - REQUIRES AN S5 OR BETTER SIGNAL

WORK ANY D-STAR SYSTEM ON A GATEWAY UTILIZING ONLY YOUR COMPUTER, DV-DONGLE, AND ISP
Keep in mind that when utilizing a DV Dongle to connect to a D-Star repeater via the Gateway, you may not be able to hear all of the users currently on that repeater. In order for you to be able to hear them, they must have assigned the Gateway callsign as RPT2 in their own radios.

IF YOUR CALLSIGN IS NOT ALREADY REGISTERED ON A D* GATEWAY, YOU MUST DO SO IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO TRANSMIT USING THE DV-DONGLE. IF YOU ARE INDEED A VALID LICENSED AMATEUR RADIO OPERATOR, YOU MAY REGISTER ON-LINE VIA THE FOLLOWING LINK, COURTESY OF HAM RADIO OUTLET.

* D-STAR CALLSIGN REGISTRATION *

BEST SUITED FOR WEAK SIGNAL OPERATION (SSB)

PER THE FCC (ON 05-07-08) D-STAR REPEATERS MAY NOT TX ON 144.0-144.5 AND 145.5-146.0
ALL HAM RADIO OUTLETS HAVE THEIR OWN VHF/ UHF / 1.2GHZ OPERATIONAL D-STAR REPEATER SYSTEMS ON DISPLAY
